You have just finished dictating a report. Now what? You can either save, edit, or sign the report, or use some combination of the three items. Here's a few things to keep in mind.
If you just want to dictate a report and move on to the next report, you can save the report. You can save a report in several ways:
Save: Saves your changes and lets you return to the report at a later time
Draft: Saves the report as a draft version. You can do this for all non-final reports, which are reports with the status of either Pending Correction, Corrected, Pending Signature, Correction Rejected, or Sign Rejected.
Wet Read: Saves the report as a "pre-draft," allowing you to promote the report to a Draft status at a later time. (This is an optional setting and may not be configured at your facility.)
You have two options for editing: you can edit your own report, or you can send the report to an editor (if your administrator has allowed this option).
Is the text of your report visible on your computer screen? If it is, you can begin editing. If the text is not on your screen, you are in the Press to Transcribe speech recognition mode and you have to press the Transcribe button on your microphone to view the text.
Click here to see how to change your speech recognition mode.
Review the report text and make any changes needed.
Either sign or save the report.
If you prefer to have an editor review and correct your report, say "Correct Report" or click the Correct icon.
When you are satisfied with your edited report, sign it using one of the following methods.
Sign: Depending upon your role:
If you sign the report as an attending provider, the status becomes Final. (Optional: site-configurable statements can be added to the report: an attestation statement and final electronic signature.)
If you sign the report as a resident, the status becomes Pending Signature and an optional, site-configurable preliminary electronic signature is appended to the report.
Sign as Preliminary (available to attending physicians only): Marks report as Pending Signature and appends an optional, site-configurable preliminary electronic signature.
Other options include:
Discard: Permanently deletes the report from the system. This action cannot be undone. Only the report owner can discard his/her non-final reports.
Reject: Sends the report back to the originator; depends upon the user's role. Click here for information on rejecting a report.
