Did
you know voice shortcuts exist within Dragon
Medical that can save you time when managing
Microsoft Outlook calendar entries and email?
Dragon Medical has many
commands available to save you time when using
Microsoft Outlook and many other Microsoft
applications. For example:
- If you're
working in an application or
browsing the Internet and you need to send
an email to colleagues, just say, "Send
email to Jon Smith and Raphael
Sanchez," and Dragon will activate your
email program, create a new email and put the
contact names or contact groups you've said into
the "To:" box.
- For new meetings or
appointments, you can say, "Schedule
meeting with Jon Smith and Raphael
Sanchez," and Dragon
Medical initiates the process by opening a
new calendar entry in Outlook and adding to it
the selected contact(s).
- You can also say,
"Schedule appointment with Design
Team" or "Schedule an event with All
Employees" using existing contact lists.
To review all
shortcuts available for Microsoft applications,
take a minute to review the Dragon Medical
help file by choosing Help
Topics from the Dragon Medical Help menu.
Next search for the keyword
Microsoft, where you will find
many helpful tips.

Did you know you can increase
your recognition accuracy by using the voice
commands SELECT / SPELL THAT/
TRAIN?
Even if your
recognition accuracy is 99 percent, you're editing
approximately one word out of every 100 words
dictated. Increasing the accuracy by only
one-half percent, to 99.5%, will reduce the
edits by half. This means, instead of editing
1 in 100 words, you will only be editing
1 in 200 words.
Although your accuracy
may already be high, you may find that some
words or phrases are commonly misrecognized. By
consistently training these words or phrases you
will continue to increase your recognition
accuracy, which will save you time in the long run
and make the product much more efficient for
you. Below is a simple procedure which allows
you to quickly train a word or phrase by
using the Select, Spell That,
and Train voice
commands.
Example: A physician
dictates the phrase, "atrial
fibrillation," and this phrase
commonly gets recognized as atrophy
relation. Perform the following steps to
correct this misrecognition and train
the word "atrial fibrillation."
- Speak
Select atrophy relation.
- Once the word or phrase
has been selected, speak Spell
That.
- Say each letter of the
phrase atrial
fibrillation.
- To train the corrected
word or phrase,
speak Train.
- Speak
Go then speak atrial
fibrillation.
- Speak Done
to finalize your modification.

Did you know a Dragon Medical
desktop shortcut can be configured to open a
specific local or roaming user
profile?
The
following provides step-by-step instructions
on how to create a shortcut to launch the
Dragon application for a local user. This
is ideal for situations where there are
multiple users sharing the same
workstation.
- Open Windows Explorer
and navigate to the
"natspeak.exe" file, located by
default in the subdirectory
C:\ProgramFiles\Nuance\NaturallySpeaking10\Program.
- Right click the
Natspeak.exe file and select
Send to > Desktop
(Create Shortcut).
- Close Windows Explorer
and locate the file Shortcut to
Natspeak.exe on your desktop.
- Right click the
Shortcut to Natspeak.exe file
and select Rename. Rename
the shortcut "Dragon John" or
"Dragon Medical David"
etc.
- Right click the newly
created shortcut and select
Properties.
- Edit the Target line
adding: /user <user path>\<user
name>.
For example, a Target line
for a user login name "jsmith" would look like
this: "C:\Program
Files\Nuance\NaturallySpeaking10\Program\natspeak.exe"
/user "C:\Documents and Settings\All
Users\Application
Data\Nuance\NaturallySpeaking10\Users\jsmith"
- Click Apply
and then Ok.
- Double click the
shortcut to test.

Did you know you can
configure Nuance PowerMic buttons to
perform various commands?
When the Nuance
PowerMic I or PowerMic II microphone has been
configured for dictation in Dragon Medical, a tab
labeled "PowerMic I" or "PowerMic II" becomes
available in Dragon Medical Options. The PowerMic
tab allows the user to configure the PowerMic's
buttons and associate them
with various commands.
Assign a
command to the Nuance PowerMic
- Launch Dragon NaturallySpeaking Medical.
- On the Menu bar, click
Tools and select
Options.
- In the Options dialog box, click
the PowerMic tab.
- Click the drop down box associated to
the PowerMic button of choice.
- Choose a command from any of the built in
macro categories (applications, dictation,
navigation, etc.) or choose
User Commands to select
from your custom commands.
- Click OK to close the
options dialog box.
- Test your command by pressing the PowerMic
button you assigned the command to.
Create
a custom command
One type of a custom command you can
create is the emulation of a keystroke or
combination of keystrokes. For
example, custom commands could be
Ctrl+ESC to open the Windows Start menu or Alt+F+S
to save a MS Word document. Refer to the Help
file for more information about custom
command types.
For example, here's an ideal custom
command for a physician whose workstation
is located in a public area. This
physician often finds the need to quickly
minimize a window which displays a
patient report. You can create a custom
command to immediately minimize a window
which, in this physician's case, would quickly
remove the patient
report from public view.
The following provides
step-by-step instruction on how to create a
custom command to minimize the current
window. Once created, you may then assign
this command to the PowerMic button by referring
to the Assign a
command instructions above.
Launch Dragon
NaturallySpeaking Medical.
- On the menu
bar, click Tools and
select Add New
Command.
- In the MyCommand
Editor window, type Minimize
App in the MyCommand Name
box.
- Select
User-Defined
by clicking the
Group drop down box.
- Select the
Global radio button.
- Choose
Step-by-step by clicking
the Command Type drop down box.
- Choose
Keystrokes by clicking
the New Step drop down box.
- Click the Insert
button.
- When the Send
Keystrokes box appears press and hold the
"ALT"
key and press
the Space bar.
- Verify that you see
"Alt+Space" displayed in the box, and then click
OK to add.
- Click the Insert
button again.
- Type N on
the keyboard, and then click
OK.
- Click the
Save button.
