Did you know
that your EMR may be
Dragon certified?
Nuance classifies three (3)
levels of compatibility between the Dragon Medical
product and Electronic Health Record (EHR)
systems, listed below.
- "Dragon Works"
- Dragon Tested Vendors
- Dragon Certified Vendors (highest
level of compatibility)
Refer to each of the links below for
additional classification information and specific
vendor participation.
"Dragon
Works"
Although Dragon Medical is able to provide an
adequate level of function and compatibility
within most Windows-based EHRs, no formal
collaboration between Nuance and these EHR vendors
has occurred. Refer to the link above for a
list of EHRs that have self-reported to
EHRScope.com that
they "work with" Dragon
Medical. Nuance makes no guarantee to the
compatibility claims of these
vendors. Customers should contact the EHR
vendor to confirm their expectation of
compatibility.
Dragon Tested
Vendors
Each vendor in this category followed a
Nuance specified self-evaluation within their EHR
focusing on how a provider would ultimately use
Dragon Medical 10 within their application. Each
vendor received a minimum score on the
self-evaluation in order to be deemed: "Dragon
Tested" by Nuance. Note that the
self-evaluation is self-reported by each EHR
vendor and therefore Nuance cannot be held
responsible for Dragon Medical compatibility
claims made by each
vendor.
Dragon Certified
Vendors
http://www.nuance.com/healthcare/services/dragon-CertifiedEHRs/ehr-certified.asp The
highest level of distinction attainable with
Nuance, each vendor participated in a formal
testing event during which they collaborated with
Nuance engineers to further test Dragon within
their EHR. Successfully completing the
Nuance-Vendor Joint Evaluation guarantees an
optimal clinician experience using speech
recognition. Vendors in this category are
dedicated to ensuring that speech recognition is a
standard part of their documentation workflow.
Each vendor achieved a minimum score on the joint
evaluation in order to be deemed: "Dragon
Certified" by Nuance.
IMPORTANT: The "Dragon
Works" and Dragon Tested Vendors
classifications can mean Dragon Medical will
still support basic dictation operations even
within "non-standard windows" where the Dragon
Select-and-Say capability is disabled.
However, this may limit full voice
command function and insertion point
synchronization. Note that
the Dragon Dictation Box feature can be used
to compensate for the aforementioned
limitations.

Did you know that you can improve
accuracy in Dragon Naturally Speaking by paying
attention to how you enunciate your
words?
The ideal example of a speaker that would
receive the best recognition would be a TV news
anchor reading the news. But on the other
hand Dragon would have more problems recognizing
the speech of a casual conversation between
friends. If you can picture the speaking
patterns of a news anchor speaking in a loud,
clear voice, talking with a natural rhythm while
you dictate. As opposed to in a
conversational tone you would use with friends,
with plenty of pauses, 'ums' and 'ahs', slurring
from one word to the next, then you should find
that Dragon does a better job of recognizing your
speech.

Did you know about Numbers
Mode?
One of the most frequently used
modes, Numbers Mode makes it easy to dictate
complex numeric strings such as medical record
numbers, accession numbers, and phone numbers. In
contrast, when utilizing normal mode (default
mode), numbers dictated will be typed out as
words, such as "eight five nine" versus the
numeral equivalent of "859". It should be
mentioned that it is possible to produce a numeral
via normal mode by dictating the word
numeral before the number is
dictated. Dictating "Numeral five" will produce
output of "5" versus "five".
To access Numbers Mode simply dictate "switch
to numbers mode", then dictate the numeric string.
Once complete, dictate "switch to normal mode" to
continue dictating non numeric characters.
Alternatively, Numbers Mode can be accessed via
the Dragon Medical tool bar, Words menu.
Take a few moments to familiarize yourself
with numbers mode as well as the other modes
available via the DragonBar's Words menu.
Additional information on these modes can be found
within Dragon's built in help file. When used
properly, these modes can help you increase your
overall productivity.

Did you know
that Dragon Medical offers the option for you to
save the recognized document along with the
dictation audio to be corrected at a later
time?
This is particularly useful for
physicians with a busy schedule. Here are the
steps to enable this option:
Dragon Medical saves the dictation
audio in the same directory as the recognized
document. The dictation audio will have the same
name as the document and with the extension .DRA.
We do recommend deleting the dictation audio file
once the correction is complete since the audio
files can get quite large.
The physician can correct the
recognized document by browsing to the saved
documents location and with Dragon Medical
running, simply open the document and begin
dictation playback.
