Did you know Dragon Medical Profile Access fails with McAfee® DLP scans?
Antivirus applications are a mandatory part of securing any software environment. However, Dragon Medical is particularly sensitive to file locking conditions by other applications and can fail when malware software scans the Dragon Medical User Profile folders.
As part of its normal operation, the McAfee Host Data Loss Prevention (DLP) software scans files used by applications to determine rule eligibility for safe, trusted activity. Dragon Medical can fail when the McAfee Host DLP scans its User Profile folders.
Dragon Medical can display an error message stating the User Profile cannot access User Profile data on systems running the McAfee Host DLP. This would include the Dragon Medical Master or Roaming Profile location.
Solution
If McAfee Host DLP is used, create an Application Definition entry in the McAfee Host DLP for Dragon Medical (natspeak.exe) and set its strategy to trusted:
- Log on to the ePO 4.x console.
- Click Menu > Data Protection > DLP Policy.
- Click Application Definition under Definitions box.
- Create a new Application Definition and type a preferred name.
- Select Executable File Name, type natspeak.exe, and click OK.
- Right click on the new Dragon Medical Application Definition, select Process Strategy and set it to Trusted.
- Click Apply.
- Perform an Agent wakeup call, or manually update the policy using the McAfee Agent.

Did you know how to implement Citrix Smooth Roaming in a DM360|NE (vSync) Environment?
The DM360|NE (Dragon Medical 360 | Network Edition) product provides the vSync feature that promotes Full Text Control within Citrix-published applications across a Citrix environment. The vSync feature is comprised of a DM360|NE Client component as well as a Citrix server component, and is enabled in the NMC (Nuance Management Console).
The Citrix Smooth Roaming feature allows a provider to suspend his or her current Citrix session at one workstation and then redirect and resume that same Citrix session at another workstation.
When a provider uses the Citrix Smooth Roaming feature across multiple workstations where the DM360|NE (vSync) client is not installed on all workstations, a vSync session may not be established. The workflow steps follow:
- A published application (an EHR for example) is launched from one workstation where the DM360|NE (vSync) client is not installed.
- Minidragon shuts down after the third attempt (as designed).
- That same provider uses Citrix Smooth Roaming to suspend, redirect, and resume the same Citrix session at another workstation where the DM360|NE Client (vSync) is installed.
- vSync is unable to detect the redirected Citrix session and establish vSync function.
To temporarily establish vSync function with the re-directed Citrix session, both the DM360|NE Client and Citrix Client must be restarted.
Successfully Implementing Citrix Smooth Roaming
There are two (2) methods discussed below in which to implement DM360|NE (vSync) successfully in a Citrix Smooth Roaming environment.
- Update the Citrix server's EHRForceLogOff registry setting to 0 (zero).
- Install the DM360|NE (vSync) client on all workstations affected by Citrix Smooth Roaming.
Method #1 - Updating the EHRForceLogOff Setting
Once a published application (an EHR for example) is launched from one workstation where the DM360|NE Client (vSync) is not installed, the Minidragon component (vSync plug-in) at the Citrix server, serving the published content, attempts to start “x” number of times based on the Dragon registry value “EHRForceLogOff= ” (default value is 3). Since vSync at the client is not installed, Minidragon is unable to establish a vSync session and shuts down (as designed).
This method configures the Minidragon and MinidragonWatcher processes to continually alternate and attempt to start for workstations where DM360|NE (vSync) is not installed, until either a vSync connection is made or the Citrix session is closed.
Instead, setting “EHRForceLogOff=0” will result in every Citrix session connecting to that Citrix server, regardless of whether the client workstation has DM360|NE installed, starting the Minidragon processes for the entire session.
One consideration for this method involves consumed resources and performance on the Citrix servers. These processes on the Citrix server can include the aforementioned alternating Minidragonand MinidragonWatcher processes, as well as the dgnuiasvr_x64.exe process for 64-bit published applications. Memory consumption from these processes can be 20MB per user per session. Therefore, consider segregating all Dragon users to specific Citrix server(s) within the Citrix farm. This will eliminate consumed resources at Citrix servers for non-Dragon users.
Use Regedit or a similar tool to edit the following registry key on the Citrix server:
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Nuance EHRForceLogOff (REG_DWORD)
Set this registry key to:
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Nuance\EHRForceLogOff = 0
Method #2 - Installing the Dragon Client
Another method used to successfully implement Citrix Smooth Roaming involves the installation of the DM360|NE (vSync) client at each workstation that accesses a Citrix server where the Minidragon processes start. This would include non-Dragon workstations as well. It is understood that Dragon users accessing Citrix-published applications may represent only a small percentage of total Citrix users at a customer site. In this case, consider segregating all Dragon users to specific Citrix server(s) within the Citrix farm. This will limit the scope of client installation activity.
Note: Each time a Citrix Client is upgraded or re-installed; the vSync Restoration Patch must be applied.
