Did you know how to publish Windows Sound Recorder on Windows 2008 Server to make Sound Recorder available as a diagnostic tool for troubleshooting Dragon Medical audio problems?
Windows Sound Recorder is a useful tool in diagnosing audio problems involving Dragon Medical. For instance, if the Dragon Medical ASW (Audio Setup Wizard) cannot be initiated, or the input device (microphone) is simply not recording audio; Sound Recorder, on the workstation or server, can be used for troubleshooting.
There are existing iSupport articles that include Sound Recorder as a procedural step during troubleshooting input device detection and recording audio issues:
- Solution 13029: Unable to complete the Audio Setup Wizard?
- Solution 14263: Did you know the facts about resolving USB Device detection issues with Dragon Medical?
The specific purpose of this article is to make Sound Recorder available on Windows 2008 Server (including R2). This becomes especially useful within Citrix environments where the Dragon Medical client cannot complete the ASW or cannot record audio. Installing Sound Recorder on Windows 2008 Server and then publishing it within Citrix begins with these steps:
- On the Windows Task Bar, click Start>Control Panel>Programs and Features.
- Click the Turn Windows features on or off link on the left.
- In the Server Manager window, click Features>Add Features.
 - In the Add Features Wizard, enable the Desktop Experience check box and click Next.

- A message will present stating that a server restart is required after the installation, click Install.
- The installation will complete and prompt for the server to be restarted, either restart the server now or restart later.
- Once the server is restarted and the installation succeeded, access Sound Recorder by clicking Start>All Programs>Accessories>Sound Recorder.
Please Note: A sound system (sound card) or USB microphone will be necessary on the Windows 2008 Server if Sound Recorder will be used locally. Otherwise, the Sound Recorder application can be published via Citrix from: C:\Windows\System32\SoundRecorder.exe

Did you know Dragon Medical can generate commands for HTML elements on a web page for users who are dictating into a web-based EHR.
When using Dragon Medical to dictate into a web-based EHR available when the Enable HTML Support checkbox is enabled on the Options dialog of the Commands tab, Dragon will generate commands for the HTML elements on a web page. This option allows you to use spoken commands with the elements on the web page.
Nuance has recognized that when a web page contains a large number of HTML elements, users may experience a longer wait for a web page to display, lose the ability to dictate into areas of the web page, or experience the web page in a state where it will not respond. These symptoms are generally found when using an older version of Dragon Medical Enterprise Edition and Dragon Medical is generating commands for each and every element.
To alleviate these symptoms, enhancements have been made in the latest version of Dragon Medical Enterprise Edition (10.10.300.065) allowing Dragon to ignore a group or individual set of these HTML elements. Dragon Medical Enterprise Build 10.10.300.065 is available for download from iSupport by searching for:
- Solution 14274: What's New in Dragon Medical Software and Can I download the current version?
In Dragon Medical Enterprise Edition version 10.10.300.065 you can set options to ignore certain HTML elements on a web page by modifying settings
in the nssystem.ini file. Dragon can ignore the following elements as a group or individually:
- Buttons
- CheckBoxes
- Select elements
- ImageMaps
- OnClick elements
- Labels
To turn off HTML command generation for a group of HTML elements, perform the following:
- Exit the Dragon Medical application.
- Open the nssystem.ini file in a text editor (i.e. notepad). NOTE: The nssystem.ini file is located in one of the following folders:
- In Windows XP:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Nuance\NaturallySpeaking10
- In Windows Vista and Windows 7: C:\ProgramData\Nuance\NaturallySpeaking10

- Under [Settings], set the Ignore Multiple HTML Elements option to 1. See image above.
- Save the changes to the nssystem.ini file and close the text editor.
- Re-launch the Dragon Medical application.
To turn off HTML command generation for individual HTML elements, perform the following:
- Exit the Dragon Medical application.
- Open the nssystem.ini file in a text editor (i.e. notepad). NOTE: The nssystem.ini file is located in one of the following folders:
- In Windows XP:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Nuance\NaturallySpeaking10
- In Windows Vista and Windows 7: C:\ProgramData\Nuance\NaturallySpeaking10

- Under [Settings], set the Ignore Multiple HTML Elements option to 0. See image above.

- Under [Settings], add one or more of the following variable settings:
- For Button: Ignore HTML Button Elements=1
- For CheckBox: Ignore HTML Elements=1
- For Select: Ignore HTML Select Elements=1
- For ImageMap: Ignore HTML ImageMap Elements=1
- For OnClick: Ignore HTML OnClick Elements=1
- For Label: Ignore HTML Label Elements=1
Note: If you do not set an option for an individual HTML element, the default setting is 0. This means that Dragon will automatically generate commands for the HTML element type.
- Save the changes to the nssystem.ini file and close the text editor.
- Re-launch the Dragon Medical application.
