Did you know there are three types of shortcuts that could be imported to or exported from PowerScribe?
There are three types of shortcuts:
- Voice: predefined text is inserted into the report when a user says a trigger word PowerScribe (or Dictaphone) followed by the shortcut name.
- Text: Predefined text that is inserted into the report when a user types the shortcut name.
- PowerNormal: Predefined text is inserted into the report when a user says the word "PowerScribe" (or "Dictaphone") followed by the word "Normal," or clicks the Normal button in the Dictation Client. The appropriate shortcut is inserted based on the procedure code(s) for the order.
Press the play button on the following eTIPS Video icon to view a brief demonstration explaining the three types of shortcuts and how to import/export them.

Did you know using the spellcheck option to "Add" word would add the word to the PowerScribe User's profile?
When using spellcheck on a dictated document, spellcheck may encounter a word that doesn't exist in your language model. When you add the word, via spellcheck, the PowerScribe client will recognize it as associated to the user and it will be skipped during the next spell check process.
Furthermore, if the PowerScribe Administrative user adds the word to the "system" list as a spelled word, the spell check adds it to the "replacement list" so that the user can select it to replace the marked word.

Did you know the PowerMic might not be bad when an error occurs?
When a user has trouble tuning a microphone or gets a message stating that the microphone has been disconnected, the problem may not with the microphone itself. There are many components involved in taking your voice, giving it to PowerScribe, then turning that voice into text on the computer screen. If you can disconnect the microphone, take it to another workstation and and see if it works. If it does work, the issue is more than likely not with the microphone itself. Consider looking into ensuring the PowerMic is plugged in correctly, the onboard sound is enabled and the correct sound device is selected for both record and play back, the anti-virus settings are correct, and that there are no driver issues.
For more information about troubleshooting PowerMic issues, log in to iSupport and search for solution 14992 "What to check before sending a PowerMic in for repair." If you are not an iSupport subscriber, click iSupport Timesaver for information on how you may get started with iSupport.

Did you know what to look for to help a user improve the recognition accuracy of punctuations such as "period?"
Do you have users who experience poor recognition accuracy when dictating punctuation? For example, a provider dictates a sentence that ends by dictating the word "period." However, the recognized text for the period appears as peri or perio as opposed to ".".
The primary cause for this inaccurate recognition is mainly due to the provider releasing the microphone record button early, before fully annunciating the word, which is causing the system to translate the first one or two phonemes of the word. Training the word "period" as punctuation (this ability exists in Version 5 only) does not help in this case, due to the full word not being recorded and translated. In many cases, it has been noticed that the provider has not fully released the record button, but lifted his or her thumb just far enough to turn off the recording.
To prevent this from occurring, train the provider to fully speak the word "period", pause for a moment (less than a second is sufficient), then release the record button.
