Did you know you could help optimize the recording level of a radiologist's dictation by using the PowerScribe Audio Setup Wizard?

Radiologists, who dictate reports into PowerScribe by using the PowerMic II, or any other recording device, must first run the Audio Setup Wizard to adjust the recording sensitivity of the microphone. Once completed, the microphone recording level should be at an optimal level; thereby, allowing the speech recognition engine to better process the voice sounds, which may result into a higher level of recognition accuracy.

During the course of dictating reports, radiologists should periodically glance at the recording indicator to ensure the recording level is adequate. Meaning, the indicator is mostly showing green and peaking to red often. If the recording level indicator is showing yellow and peaking to green, the Radiologist should re-do the Audio Setup Wizard until an optimal level of recording is obtained.

Click the play button on the following eTIPS video image for a brief demonstration on how to use the Audio Input Level Wizard to optimize the recording level for dictation.

eTIPS Video

Perform the following to optimize the recording level:

  1. Have the Radiologist log in to the PowerScribe Dictation client.
  2. On the Shortcut Bar, click Training > Adjust Microphone.
  3. When the Microphone Input Level Wizard dialog appears, click Next.
  4. In the Adjusting Input level dialog, click the START button.
IMPORTANT: Make sure to place the microphone at the furthest position as held during regular dictation. Radiologists generally place the microphone two inches from their mouth and move it to approximately 8 or 10 inches away when they are taking a closer look at a study or reading information from the PACs. In cases such as these, be sure the radiologist places the microphone 8 to 10 inches away from the mouth, which would be the furthest point as during the normal course of dictation.
  5. While holding the microphone at the furthest position, dictate the paragraph shown in the dialog box. I.e. “I am using the microphone setup wizard to make sure…”
  6. After reading the entire paragraph, click the STOP button.
  7. On the right side of the screen, there is indicator bar showing the sensitivity setting obtained while dictating the paragraph. If the indicator bar is above 50 percent continue with step eight, otherwise, preform the following to start over:
    1. Click the Back button.
    2. Click the Next button.
    3. Position the microphone farther away and click START.
    4. Dictate the paragraph. “I am using the microphone setup wizard…”
    5. Click the STOP button.
    6. Verify the sensitivity bar on the right is above 50 percent.
  8. Click the Finish button to save the new setting and exit the wizard.

Did you know you could enable AutoNext in the PACSBridge application to quickly sign a batch of reports?

The PowerScribe AutoNext feature allows a radiologist to quickly review or sign a batch of reports by automatically calling up the next report once the current report is signed, saved or closed. Thereby, eliminating the need to open each report manually. To enable the AutoNext feature:

  1. Bring the PACSBridge application into focus by clicking the PACSBridge task bar icon.
  2. Click the AutoNext option so it is set to "on."
  3. Click the AlwaysshowPowerScribe checkbox so it is enabled.
  4. Switch to the PowerScribe application and select the AutoNext checkbox so it is enabled.
  5. Select the Reports tab and open a study for review\signature.
When you sign, save, or close this study, the next study will open automatically.

Please note: The AutoNext feature will automatically revert back to disabled in both the PACSBridge and PowerScribe applications when you initiate a new dictation. Simply repeat these steps each time you want to review and sign reports by using the AutoNext feature.

For more information, please login to iSupport and search for solution: 12918 "How to user AutoNext to review\sign reports via PACSBridge" If you are not an iSupport subscriber, click iSupport Timesaver for information about how you may get started.
