Did you know you could benefit from installing Nuance's Accelerator Gateway?

Sites uploading studies via the Nuance PowerShare File Upload tool could benefit from installing a local Accelerator Gateway (AGW). While the File Upload Tool is great for outside patient CD ingestion, sending studies from a local PACS or modality should be done via an AGW.

The Nuance AGW gateway acts as a local DICOM node, listening for incoming associations from sources on the local network. Creating an export or send-to destination on your PACS or modality will allow users to send directly to PowerShare via the AGW. Separate sending channels can be setup on the gateway to direct studies to different facilities on PowerShare.

Hub facilities can setup auto-share rules to automatically share out studies to specific spoke sites when uploaded through a particular gateway channel; whereas, spoke facilities will upload studies directly to connect hub facilities. In either workflow, confirmation of receipt is possible via an email notification or by checking the PowerShare messages page on the website.

The Nuance AGW software can be installed on just about any workstation or server. Since it runs as a system service, there is no need for local user interaction with the workstation. Configuration changes and software updates are pushed directly from the PowerShare website – thus, allowing administrators to manage their AGW from their PowerShare account on any workstation.

Accelerator Gateway (AGW) installations are included free-of-charge to both spoke and hub facilities. Our support and implementation teams are available to assist with any new installation. Interested administrators are encouraged to view our
specifications sheet for workstation recommendations and firewall considerations. Please contact our support team for more information about our Accelerator Gateway (AGW).

Did you know there is a tool to assist you with troubleshooting Java issues?

Before contacting support or troubleshooting Java issues, perform the following steps to ensure Java is installed on your computer and verify that it is the recommended version for PowerShare (Java 8, Update 65):

  1. Go to
    https://www.java.com/en/download/installed.jsp
and the Verify Java and Find Out-of-Date Versions page opens.

  2. Click Agree and Continue.

  3. If you are presented with a dialog box to verify that you want to run the Java Uninstall Applet, click Run.

NoteNOTE: This applet checks your current version of Java and notifies you if it finds older obsolete Java versions.

  4. After the applet runs, a results box opens showing the version, or versions, of Java that are on your computer. If you have more than one version, you have the option to remove the obsolete versions.

ImportantIMPORTANT: While our Java applets may run on other releases or updates of Java, PowerShare only guarantees optimal performance on what is listed above.

Did you know you can combine multiple physician and/or facility contacts into groups?

In many situations, it's better to combine multiple physician and/or facility contacts into groups, which will save you time when sharing images, sending messages, or creating auto-share rules.

Perform the following to create a group:

  1. Click the Contacts tab.

  2. In the top right corner, click Add New Group and the Add New Group
window will open. See illustration below.
  3. Add New Group

  4. Enter a Name and a Description. This name will be used when searching for the group in the future or when sharing studies.

  5. Click one or more contacts from the Contacts column (left side of window) to include them in the group. The contacts will move to the Group Members column (right side of window).

  6. To remove a contact from the group, click the X found on the right side of the contact's row in the Group Members column. The contact will move back to the Contacts column.

  7. Click the Save Group button to save your new group.

After you create and save a group, you can access it from the Contacts tab, just as you would any other contact.

TipTIP: An ‘All Images Share’ group can be quite useful when you have a group of physician contacts who need to view any and all images that are uploaded to your repository. In addition, when you have a group of physicians, such as a referring physician group, grouping the contacts together allows you to use a single auto-share rule to share out all images with those referring physicians’ names listed on the uploaded image.

What's New

The following new features have been added to PowerShare Network for the November 2015 product update.

Single Sign On with Active Directory:

Active Directory (AD) single sign on allows a facility admin to securely add or remove users from multiple applications at one time from a single location. It also allows users to log in with a single network username/password for all applications that they access, including PowerShare.

NoteNOTE: Please contact your Nuance account representative for more information about Single Sign On.

PACS Work Queue:

PowerShare provides a simple method for nominating images for PACS. The Images tab now contains a choice calls PACS, which brings up a dynamic list of the work queue.

NoteNOTE: This feature is available to users who have the Use File room work queue feature enabled in their user profile (under Admin > Manage Users).

Request Work Queue:

PowerShare provides a simple method for managing requests. The Images tab now contains a choice called Requests, which brings up a dynamic list work requests.

NoteNOTE: This feature is available to users who have the Use File room work queue feature enabled in their user profile (under Admin > Manage Users).

  1. Confirm that your email address is on the notification list and that the log shows the messages being successfully delivered to you by emailing support@nuancepowershare.com and opening a ticket.
  2. Check your spam/junk folder for the message.  Set your spam/junk folder options to allow these messages to be delivered to your inbox.
  3. Add delivery@b2b-mail.net  to your whitelist.
  4. Investigate with your email administration why the message is not making it to your inbox.
Special Reminder for Chrome Users

The Java plug-in for web browsers relies on the cross platform plugin architecture NPAPI, which has long been, and currently is, supported by all major web browsers. Google has followed through with their plans to remove NPAPI support from Chrome.  With the most recent release (v51) Google Chrome will no longer support NPAPI, thus they are effectively dropping support for Silverlight, Java, Facebook Video and other similar NPAPI based plugins.
The following Java-based PowerShare products will be affected by this change:

  • File Upload Tool*
  • Modality Worklist Reconcile
  • Clinical Viewer*

Java is still supported on other main-stream browsers such as Firefox, Internet Explorer and Safari.  Chrome users are encouraged to switch to an alternate browser should they have any issues accessing the products listed above.

* These products have alternative versions available that do not require Java.  Please contact support or your outreach coordinator to discuss available options.
