Did you know the two most important items that will allow a Radiologist to Improve Recognition accuracy?
Ensuring the Dragon Software version is at a level where the Microphone Recording can be increased and setting the Max Speed vs. Accuracy system setting to allow for 70 percent favoring accuracy are the two most important items to allow for a Radiologist to improve his or her speech recognition accuracy.
There is a new website, designed for Local System Administrators, that focuses on providing instructions to pre-configure the PowerScribe 360 | Reporting system to support a successful outcome when troubleshooting speech recognition issues including; step-by-step instructions on how to ensure the Dragon software version is correct and that he Max Speed vs. Accuracy is set to 70 percent favoring accuracy. Also included are instructions on how to prepare for and meet with a radiologist who is in need of help with speech recognition issues, link to this website follows.

Did you know how to dictate fluoroscopy time down to the hundredth of a minute with success?
When dictating the word “minutes” in PowerScribe 360 | Reporting, the word ‘minutes” is triggered by an internal algorithm that determines how the surrounding numbers/text are to be interpreted and then formatted accordingly. Here are some examples on how the speech recognition engine reacts based on how numbers are dictated before the word “minutes”.
- When a person states, “I’ll see you in fifteen minutes.” This is a very common statement and the system will respond with “15 minutes”.
- When a person states, “I’ll see you in one five minutes.” This is an uncommon statement and the system will respond with “1 -- 5 minutes.” The system is assuming the person is stating “I’ll see you in one to five minutes”, which is a very common statement.
- When a person states, “Fluoroscopy time one point six seven minutes.” The system uses the algorithm and responds with “1. 6 -- 7 minutes.” The system is interpreting this statement as numbered list item number one (1.), followed by “six to seven minutes” (6 -- 7 minutes), the end result being “1. 6 -- 7 minutes.”
We have engaged our development team to enhance the application to allow for the dictation of minutes down to the hundredths. In the meantime, the following provides a few simple rules to follow, which will allow for dictating a Fluoroscopy time down to the hundredth of a minute with success:
- Dictate the whole number (1-5) followed by “point” or “dot.” I.e. Dictate “one point” or “one dot” (result “1.”)
- Dictate the hundredth of the minute based on the following:
- 01-09: Dictate “zero one” or “oh one”, “zero two” or “oh two”, etc.
- 10-99: Dictate the unique name for the two digit number, I.e. Dictate, “eleven” not “one one”, “sixty seven” not “six seven”, etc.
Sample dictation with desired result:
- Dictate: “Fluoroscopy time one point sixty seven minutes.”
- Result: “Fluoroscopy time 1.67 minutes.”
Sample dictation with undesired result:
- Dictate: “Fluoroscopy time one point six seven minutes.”
- Result: “Fluoroscopy time 1. 6 -- 7 minutes.”

Did you know you could navigate to different fields within a self-edit report by using voice commands?
During the course of dictating a report, you may find yourself in an area where you will need to use the mouse or keyboard to move to the next desired location to continue dictating the report. In addition to using the mouse or keyboard, you can use voice commands to move to different fields located within the report. For example; suppose you are dictating content into the Impression section of the report and noticed that you have not dictated the comparison date. Simply say, "Field Comparison" to go directly to the comparison section of the report.
Fields are typically defined in a report template to simplify dictation and to provide continuity of reports. You can navigate to the different fields by using the following voice commands.
- Next field will move the cursor down to the next field in the report
- Previous field will move the cursor up to the prior field in the report.
- Field followed by the Field Name will move the cursor to that specific named field.
Click the play button on the following eTIPS video image for a brief demonstration on how to navigate to different fields by using voice commands.
